Your “blazing” morning news roundup for Tuesday, September 25th, 2007:

Students at McGill are without their gym, after a fire broke out in a substation under Molson Stadium and caused some smoke damage to the McGill Athletic Centre.

Another suspicious blaze engulfs a restaurant, this time in Montreal's east-central Beaubien district, causing serious damage. Cops are investigating.

Around 6,000 east-enders are still without water, while city workers are inspecting and mending a busted water main under Pie IX boulevard. Bottled water is being distributed for free at three distribution centres. Affected residents are each entitled to 12 litres of it a day.

In a crime spree mildly reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto, a jonesin' 25-year-old Laval man is suspected of robbing some residents, speeding off in their car, and being involved in an accident on Highway 440. He was later arrested at his parents' home on Monday morning, and is due to appear in court today.
