Enter the brown bin: the curbside compost collection program, which lessens the amount of garbage going to the dump, is coming to Montreal. Starting this week, residents of Cote St. Luc will be able to throw their organic kitchen scraps into these bins, though there are no plans as yet to expand the program to the whole city.

Hack heiress Paris Hilton made a cameo in Montreal yesterday, dazzling club-goers on Saint-Jacques Street. It is thought she could earn up to $200,000 for this appearance.

Cops are investigating a couple of suspicious blazes in the east end of Montreal. An apartment block and a restaurant went up in flames, under somewhat sketchy circumstances.

Facing a crucial provincial by-election vote in Charlevoix riding today, Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois is demanding a retraction from The Gazette, which aired allegations about the way Marois and her husband went about building their $3-million estate in an article over the weekend.
