Your morning news roundup for Friday, October 19th, 2007:
The Johnson Commission has identified three main reasons for the collapse of Laval's Highway 19 last September. The highly anticipated report, which was made public yesterday, blames basic design flaws, faulty installation, and overly porous concrete. (Yeah, so porous that two cars fell through. The victims of the collapse are apparently not even worth an apology from the provincial government.)
A large diesel truck spilled its load on Highway 30 westbound in the South Shore yesterday afternoon. The driver is safe and there's no risk of explosion, but the highway is completely closed.
Homeless people are turning up in new neighourhoods, possibly as a result of of a Ville Marie crackdown last year in the downtown area. Officials enforced bylaws that they claim existed before the merger, such as forbidding people in parks after midnight and banning dogs from designated places.
News from the sidelines: It was game 6 and the Habs lost 4-3 to the Sens in Ottawa last night, playing catch-up all night after giving up a goal 31 seconds into the game.

Minor correction: The five people who died in the collapse didn't fall, they were in two cars that were crushed by the falling concrete slap. Others who were driving on top were injured when their cars fell, but didn't die from it.
