Your morning news roundup for Tuesday, October 30th, 2007:

The Tories are likely to announce broad tax cuts for the new year in this afternoon's fall economic update. The update, which essentially contains spending projections, may also feature a further percentage-point reduction in the GST.

Quebecers are leaving the province in numbers not seen since the 1995 referendum, reports Stats Canada. This is a trend some observers blame on the ongoing accommodation debate.

China qualified Prime Minister Stephen Harper's meeting with the Dalai Lama yesterday as "disgusting." Harper defied the Chinese government by hosting the TIbetan spiritual leader yesterday in his office in Parliament. Liu Janchao, a Foreign Ministry spokesman, said that the meeting seriously "undermined Sino-Canadian relations."

Halloween special: More girls are bucking the trend towards revealing costumes and dressing down instead. (Damn right! I think I'll hurl if I see one more "sexy" anything: nurse, construction worker, policewoman, french fry, Hermione??, etc.)
