Your morning news roundup for Friday, November 16th, 2007:

The Mulroney-Schreiber affair: In case you still care, former prime minister Brian Mulroney aired his troubles in front of a receptive audience yesterday in Montreal. He vowed to fight for his reputation in the case of a lawsuit brought to the courts by a former business associate. Meanwhile, the associate Karlheinz Schreiber has obtained a delay to his extradition to Germany and opposition parties have been quick to link the current Conservative government to the scandal.

A computer glitch caused delays in Air Canada flights across the country and around the world early this morning, said an airline spokesperson. The glitch, which began to affect check-in and reservation processes, began around 4:30 AM. Other airlines were not affected. Passengers were generally provided with little information and most are resigned to wait.

Frédéric Garneau, the 20-year old whose drag racing caused the death of 2 teenage girls in 2005, was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison yesterday. On July 24, 2005, Garneau had had his few beers when he accepted a challenge to a drag race on Notre Dame St. E; he had only his learner's permit. Garneau ignored pleas to stop from passengers Annie Lachapelle, 18, and Mélissa Lalonde-Émard, 16. He lost control of the car, which hit a lamp post and a tree before coming to a stop.

The borough of Ville-Marie and Communauto have launched a carpooling service for downtown companies. The service will add 24 vehicles to 12 service points in the city's finance district. Although the project targets a mainly corporate clientele, the vehicles will be available to all members of the cooperative.

I really like your news reviews. It's the only way I can stay interested in Montreal news while being away.

Why thanks, that really made my day. I try to crystallize what I think would matter to Montrealers because there's such a wealth of material out there; media saturation can be pretty overwhelming at times.
