Your morning news roundup for Tuesday, December 4, 2007:

Turkeys at Christmas: Karlheinz Schreiber promises it will be "like Christmas" for the federal ethics committee when he returns to testify at Parliament today. Schreiber spent the weekend holed up in the Ottawa Detention Centre studying documents he said he needed to testify about his dealing with ex-PM Brian Mulroney. In case you didn't know already, the committee is looking into $300,000 in cash that Schreiber gave Mulroney after he left office in 1993.

Moshe Safdie, the world-renown architect behind Montreal's Habitat 67, has been "squeezed out" of master plans for the future hospital of the McGill University Health Centre. Last November, the MUHC made a big deal out of Safdie's involvement with the hospital that will be built on the site of the former Glen railway yard in the city's west end. Yesterday however, his name was absent from the press release announcing the "design phase" of the billion-dollar project. Instead, four Quebec firms have been retained to be the master architectural team.

Yesterday marked the first big storm of the season, and clean-up is expected to cost $17 million, said Councillor Marcel Tremblay. Provincial police urged people to drive slowly or avoid leaving the house if they could. School closures were numerous, as were flight delays and cancellations at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. Tremblay says the city is ready with a budget of $130 million.

Excerpts from a top-10 list compiled by broker network Royal LePage of what the wealthy want for Christmas this year to pimp out their homes: (1) an elevator car lift and indoor car wash ($32,500-$36,500 total); (2) walk-in refrigerator ($7,000-$20,000 depending on the fittings); and (3) a spa, gym, yoga and Pilates studio a.k.a. a "health and wellness facility" (min. $50,000).

thankfully,Moshe has been squeezed out. Quebec doesnt need an untalented former celebrity architect from a distant land to solve our local design issues. What are we? Ontario? Quebec architects have proven themselves more than competent - after all, Montreal is named city of design by UNESCO. Celebrity architects produce commodities, local architects produce solutions.
