Your morning news roundup for Monday, May 19th, 2008:

Princess Diaries, Montreal redux: Saturday marked the day one of our own became a royal. Montrealer Autumn Kelly married Queen Elizabeth's first-born grandson, Peter Phillips. Both are 30. Kelly said she was oblivious to Phillips' royal links until 6 weeks into their relationship, when she and her mother spotted her boyfriend in a TV documentary about Prince William. That was 5 years ago, shortly after the couple met at the Montreal Grand Prix. Their wedding is "first in a new generation of royal pairings, as the Queen's grandchildren come of age." Phillips is 11th in line for the throne and does not have a title; because his parents declined offers of a courtesy title, he is the first legitimate grandchild of a monarch to be born in 500 years.

A suspect in the murder of political aide Nancy Michaud is set to appear in court today. The 26-year old man is facing first-degree murder charges and will most likely face more from the prosecution. Last Friday, Michaud was abducted from her Rivière Ouelle home, apparently trying to fight off an intruder. Police discovered her body in an abandoned house 2.5 kilometers ffrom there. The suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon near the house, and went from an "important witness" to "#1 suspect." He was seen on video withdrawing money from an ATM machine with Michaud's bank card. Michaud, 37, was an aide to Quebec Natural Resources Minister Claude Béchard. She was married and the mother of 2 young children.

News Bytes:

A young man who was crushed by a helicopter in British Columbia reminds us of the dangers of listening to your iPod too loud. Yikes.

There are still bodies waiting or their final resting places at the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetary.

La Ronde is open for business -- but closed to the foul-mouthed. Clean up your language act.
