Your morning news roundup for Tuesday, June 10th 2008:

Montreal has a brand new anti-drug, anti-crime squad. The newly baptized Eclipse Squad comprises 66 trained officers who will be comitted to battling street gangs and "emerging criminal trends", such as drug trafficking and cybercrime. They will also assist current patrols, including the patrol in the Montreal metro and streets.

Our buddy Steve Jobs from Apple is currently working on the iPhone 2.0, a cheaper model destined for Canadian markets. The zippy little gadget will feature improved email features, faster Internet access, and half the current entry price - we're talking $199 US for an 8 Gb slice. Analysts predict it will give the competition a run for its money, and change the business stakes for all smart-phone makers. Oh, and it comes in black and white, too. The new-and-improved iPhone is due to hit the stores on July 11.

News bytes:

Quebec Natural Resources minister Claude Béchard has been diagnosed with intestinal cancer and is scheduled for an emergency surgery tomorrow.

Montreal gas watch: prices hit the $1.51 threshold yesterday in some areas.

CTV scored the rights for the most disputed "Hockey Night in Canada" theme song, over its rival CBC.
