Your morning news roundup for Thursday, August 14th 2008:

In this beautiful morning, Fredy Villanueva's funeral will be held in Montreal Nord. He had been killed on Saturday night during an exchange of bullets with two policemen. Media are not permitted at the funeral, but an outdoor ceremony is planned where doves and balloons will be released.

In other really awesome news, Harper is so fed up with the Liberals that he is threatening to pull the plug and topple his own minority government. Isn't that political suicide?

And now, in today's installment of Olympics Watch, Victoria Poon will be competing tomorrow despite a case of chickenpox.

If smog has caused some issues back in China for the OG's, it's also going to cause some major commotion back here. An estimated 70,000 Canadians will die due to air pollution in the next 20 years, according to the Canadian Medical Association.
