Fresh brewed news for Tuesday, March 17 2009:

Happy St Patrick's day! - While deciding how to cover new's today I was scanning the net for fact and fiction on this national holiday of Ireland. In Canada and many other places it is widely celebrated but is not an official holiday. I say it should be a holiday at least on the Island of Montreal. We boast the longest continually running Saint Patrick's day parade in North America, since 1824. Which is going to take place this coming Sunday March 22nd. Our city's flag even has the Irish emblem, the shamrock, in one of its corners. What do you think?

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will go into today's St. Patrick's Day home game against the Chicago Blackhawks needing one win to set an NHL goaltender win record with 552. Passing the saintly Patrick Roy, Brodeur tied Patrick Roy's record of 551 victories last Saturday in Montreal.

Quebec Premier Jean Charest showed off his new "smart" driver's license near the Canada-U.S. border on Monday as our province became the first in the country to issue the new border-friendly licenses. The card will cost $40 on top of the standard government license fees. It will be good for four years. A passport will still be required for air travel. Privacy was the biggest issue regarding the new license. Charest assures the public that measures have been taken to protect us.

As it was reported yesterday, rocks, bottles and tear gas flew, and police cracked down Sunday during the annual march against police brutality, arresting 221 people. Police estimated that protesters caused $200,000 in damage to store windows, cars and police cars. Odd some would say, how a march against violence turns out to be so violent.

St Patrick's day should be a holiday in Canada in order to promote tourism and help the economy.

More and more people really need to check this out and understand this side of
your story. I was surprised that you're not more popular since you definitely have
