Fresh brewed news for Monday, April 6 2009:

It's been raining for almost a week now, and with the snow melting, more than 20 rivers in Southern Quebec are on flood watch. Regions of the lower St. Lawrence and Outaouais have already been evacuated because of rising water levels. Officials are keeping the Montreal, Quebec City, Outaouais, Laurentians and Mauricie regions under close watch.

A group of Quebec young professionals is trying to get Gillett to sell 30% of the Habs to the Quebecois. Fans of the Montreal team would be able to buy shares of the team at the price of $100 a share. In this scenario, Gillett would still be the owner of the Habs with 50.1% of the team's shares. The leader of the group wishes to meet with the Habs' president, Pierre Boivin, soon enough to discuss the project.

UQAM teachers have voted 91% in favor of a prolonged strike. The strike should last until Tuesday of next week.

The Harper government will dedicate $100 million over the next two years to festivals across the country. The first checks will be signed this summer, and both the Just for Laughs and Jazz fests have been invited to submit applications to receive federal funding.

I only tried poutine once and it was good. I'm not alleowd to eat it now though; my cholesterol won't let me. Too bad because every once in a while I really do get a hankering for it.
