Chinese officials have finally released a group of Université de Montréal and Laval students who were quarantined over fears of swine flu. Canadian officials were puzzled by their detainment, which lasted five days, since no one in the group showed symptoms of the flu or had been in contact with a victim. China, largely blamed for the devastating worldwide SARS outbreak of 2003, is seeking to avoid a repeat.

The greening of Mackay St. next to Concordia University will have to wait. The city bowed to pressure from area merchants and residents, who fought the plan to transform the section between Sherbrooke and de Maisonneuve into a grassy oasis flanked by one-lane of traffic. Opponents gathered 300 signatures against the plan, decrying the loss of parking and the arrival of noisy, hard-partying students.

The pitch turned into a spot on her show yesterday, and he hopes the appearance will help him break into the bigtime. Lachance is peddling tunes from his 2006 franglais-named album, While I Remember You.
