Lest we forget. 91 years ago today, the First World War came to an end. The "War to End All Wars" would prove not to be such, as political, religious and personal violence continues to this day with no sign of abating. Remembrance Day is a time to remember those who have perished in years passed due to such forms of abandon. It is a time to think about those, both soldier and civilian, who still suffer from the hostile acts of violent movements. Remember to take a moment today at 11am to think about your fellow human beings affected by war, and to remember your ancestors who were also touched by this most damnable of human inventions.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

I was extremely disappointed that my company's stance was to observe the minute of silence, with an exception: if you are on a call when 11:00 comes around, invite the caller to observe the silence with you.
If the caller declines, carry on with the call as usual.

We are only asked to take 2 minutes out of an entire year to remember those who died for our freedom, but business comes first.

What a beautiful photo. @The Cosmic Horn: did you or any of your co-workers observe the 2 minutes of silence with a caller? Former inbound call center worker myself, I'd find that highly awkward...
