Montreal boroughs that have to call on private contractors to get rid of their excess snow are cracking down and fining them for poor services. Last winter, NDG fined contractors over $69,000 in penalties, and Villeray-St-Michel-Parc-Ex over $50,000. Are they eventually going to crack down on city workers for killing people?

More hospitals in Montreal - could it be? The provincial government is reportedly considering the construction of two new hospitals in the Greater Montreal Area, one in Rivière-des-Prairies and one near Vaudreuil. Both hospitals would count 200 beds, and would be able to accommodate the growing population. According to documents, the hospitals would cost $150 million each to build, and $100 million a year to operate

Gambling addiction costs millions of dollars in Quebec - and Loto Québec and the provincial government have been fighting over who has to foot the bill. Today, the government said it would reimburse treatment costs for problem gamblers between 1994 and 2002, which will add up to about $50 million.
