Lured by local talent and government incentives, Warner Bros. has announced they will be opening a video game studio in Montreal and create up to 300 jobs by 2015. The province of Quebec has pledged to invest $7.5-million in a grant through Investissement Québec, and Warner will get a 37.5% tax break on all jobs.

If the provincial government chooses to hand out hefty sums to big-name video game makers, the city of Montreal prefers to woo first-time homeowners, who are now entitled to subsidies of up to $12,500 when they buy their first home. According to Gérald Tremblay, these measures aim at convincing people to stay and settle down in Montreal.

The Montreal municipal council has voted in favor of the zoning modifications for the Mont-Jésus-Marie convent, which can now be turned into luxury condos. The building, which used to belong to Université de Montréal, was sold to the construction company F. Catania when the university realized they couldn't afford to renovate the building. F. Catania has been lobbying for zoning changes since then, and has stated it would work with preservation groups for the duration of the project.
