A few years back my boss, in a flurry of excitement, drove me out to Nun's Island (which definitely needs a new access point) to check out the remains of a gas station designed by famed architect, Mies van der Rohe. We parked, let his dog out, and circled the boarded up building a few times. It was nothing too impressive, but one had to imagine back to 1962 during its unveiling - Mies also designed Westmount Square around that time. We left a few minutes later, having let the dog do his business around back.

After years of abandonment, architecture firm FABG has completed renovation of the building with the goal of adapting it into a youth and senior activity center. Check out more photos at Architizer Blog.

Last week saw rotisserie Laurier Gordon Ramsay lose the Gordon and the Ramsay in its name after only a few months. Co-owner Danny Lavy made the bold move, maintaining that Ramsay hadn't shown since the re-opening in August. The restaurant is now called Laurier 1936. (+)

News of the first aboriginal to be canonized is an exciting thing for Mohawk Catholics of Kahnawake. Some, including those in the tourism industry, are gearing up for an October date for Kateri Tekakwitha to become a saint. Others, especially the younger generation, couldn't care less. (+)
