Eat Your Heart Out, Montreal: It's Burger Week

Posted by Caitlin / September 4, 2013

burger special-04-09-2013.jpgAs I "sit" here at my computer, happy to live in a city that just isn't ready to come down from it's festival high, I have to remain in a semi-reclining position. "Bad back?" you may ask. And the answer is no: it's burger week in Montreal. And I ain't scared of taking part in the festivities.

I just practically rolled myself home down the small hill at the corner of Rachel and Clark Street from Planète Poutine et Cie, one of the many restaurants participating in the patty pandemonium beefing up this already pretty beefy city.

All of these places competing for the ultimate burger glory are offering a $10 version of their house special (with cheese, duh!) until Saturday, September 7th. So you might want to check your dignity at the door, go out in public wearing sweatpants and go on a burger Freedom Trail.

The deal at Planète Poutine was pretty excellent as their traditional burger, topped with all the classics and spicy mayo came with a drink and side of poutine for $10. Pretty good right? The answer is yes.

blue cheese-04-09-2013.jpgAs a true poutine lover at heart, I was fairly pleased to see the pile of fries, gravy and curds I'd marry if it were legal cozying up to my Blue Cheese burger on the plate. While the sauce was a bit too much on the sweet side for my tastes, I'm a purist in the matter, so it might be your thing.

But back to the main attraction: that burger. Lordy. Blue cheese and beef are two other items that would probably unite in holy matrimony given the chance and everyone would be pretty excited about it. Like when two of your best friends start hooking up but then actually fall in love. I also couldn't help but customize it with a few of their flavoured mayos for extra sauciness.

hot dogs-04-09-2013.jpgA friend of mine, due to some inherently contrarian nature, decided to go for 2 hot dogs instead of a hamburger: the Japon and the BLT, which were a hit and miss respectively. While he was happy about the fried noodles and onions on the Japon, the fact that the BLT was actually just that in a hot dog bun (without a sausage) left him a bit sad.

All in all though, this experience was a delicious one and I'd head back to try out more of the crazy contraptions on the menu. I mean, General Tao poutine, so insane it might just be genius. So just do it: get out, get salivating, get a burger and get eating. Get it?table-04-09-2013.jpg

Check out Burger Week until September 7th

Well done! I really love the way you have diebrsced the hands and burger, also when you explained what would happen if it dropped it! Try and use different openers other than They'! Keep up the good work!
