Check out my new Hummer laptop!

Posted by John / September 22, 2006

Greenpeace ranks electronics makers for environmental friendliness, and, quelle surprise, no company can claim to be too chummy with Ma Nature. Some Mac afficionados, myself included, will be surprised to find that Apple ranks near the bottom ... a drag since they put on a progressive corporate image. What? A company using marketing to appear less evil than it actually is? Shocking.

"The ranking is important because the amounts of toxic e-waste is growing everyday and it often ends up dumped in the developing world. Reducing the toxic chemicals in products reduces pollution from old products and makes recycling safer, easier and cheaper. Companies with good recycling schemes help ensure that their products don't end up in the e-waste yards of Asia."

Scorecard is here.

Ah jeez. I too (naively) feel betrayed by Apple. I just bought a new laptop. Now I'm going to feel like a real jerk carrying around that little unit of pure environmental destruction.
