Daily dose of plague

tasmanian%20devil.jpgIf global warming doesn't get us all, then perhaps the buggies will. To continue MP's reporting on the coming apocolypse, we'd like to introduce you to HEALTHmap, a website that mashes disease outbreak information with Google Maps.

The ingenuity of the thing is that it combines highly-specific, expert-confirmed data from sources like ProMed-mail and the WHO (becaue the reports are confirmed, the data is often slower to be released) with more rapid-fire reports from newspapers and blogs (which are frequently incorrect and hysterical). The map can be filtered by country, disease or information source. A handy tool if you're traveling to Saskatchewan, for example, and need to know what's ailing it. Oh, it's anthrax. Bad news if you're a cow or a bison, I guess.
