Fringe '09: The Final, Rain-Soaked, Push

I don't care what you say, weather forecast, I refuse to believe your call for rain all weekend. I don't want to hear it--la la la la la la--everyone knows you're always wrong anyway. Perhaps if we all gather our collective processing power (mental or computer, whatever works), we can perform a rain dance strong enough to ward off this wet weather pattern from washing out all the awesome events we've got going on.

For one, most of St. Laurent Blvd. is supposed to be transformed to Club "Main," not Club "Rain" and my rain slicker clashes with my tankini. But if I need to drag out the galoshes, then I'm going to make the most of it and Fringe till I can Fringe no more (Sunday night). There's still a good number of shows left to see, and here's a selection that look the most promising.

Susan Jeremy's Brazil Nuts: "Jeremy is a gifted comedian. She packs a lot of story, a barrage of laugh lines, and a lineup of wacky characters into her shows. Brazil Nuts is no exception." [Stage & Page]

Uncalled For: Today is All Your Birthdays: "A wild, bizarre, literate examination of some of Uncalled For's nerdish obsessions: time travel, space travel, the time/space continuum and engaging in coitus with it....This is the best thing they've ever done, for reals." [Hour]

Dracula in a Time of Climate Change: "Music & multimedia add nice depth to a show that, thanks to Dracula's dry wit and unfaltering accent and Renfield's mugging and physical comedy, is funny and enjoyable." [Without Annette]

Figure Skating is for Little Girls: Set in McConnell Arena, "the main feature of the set is [its] emptiness, which he fills with the booming sound of his voice through a simple PA system. After every line, you expect to hear the crowd roar. Instead, all you get is an echo bouncing off the rafters a few times before disappearing. That sensation alone makes this a Fringe show not to be missed." [Hour]

But that's what they said. Share some of your Fringe picks below.

If you can, go see Dance Animal. The show is one of the most joyous and exuberant things at the Fringe in years. Get there early to get good seats; it gets crowded fast and you might find yourself stuck behind a pillar.
