Montreal Weekend Playlist 06/28-07/02 [Podcast]

Posted by MP / June 28, 2006

Word up, people. It's Wednesday, which means it's practically the weekend right now and time to stop working and start staying up all night, eating massive brunches in the mid-afternoon, and spending your hard-earned money on pizza slices. To assist you with your weekend music choices, we've once again driven along the information superhighway and crafted a playlist that samples from the acts hitting the city's stages. Jeremy Morris hosts the second edition of the podcast, and we hope that releasing it on Wednesday will give you a bit more time to make your decision. Except for the Wednesday shows.

Anyway, tonight (Wednesday) at Main Hall, the Golden Dogs (Myspace), Clothes Make The Man and super/heater would like to rock you. Is it just me or does the singer for Clothes Make The Man like James Hetfield a lot? You might also consider seeing New York's indie kings the Walkmen (Myspace) with Richard Swift and Rockwell at La Tulipe. Wait, Rockwell? Somebody's Watching Me Rockwell? Probably not. But we can dream.

On Thursday, let's get intimate at one of two shows, shall we, baby? Boo Hoo, Sharp Like Knives, Windom Earle (Myspace) play the tiny Friendship Cove. Or the awesome one-man (unless he has a band again) saviour of rock Wax Mannequin is at Casa del Popolo. If you'd rather go big, the Dears play Metropolis as part of the Jazz Fest, with Jason Collett and MP favourites the Besnard Lakes opening up.

Friday, moody electro-dude (dudes?) Montag plays Lambi with Vitaminsforyou and I Am Robot And Proud (Myspace). Also, Socalled, aka Josh Dolgin, brings a fairly huge band -- heck, let's call it an orchestra -- to the free outdoor Bell "Groove" stage at the Jazz Fest at 10 pm. Things are guaranteed to get messy, and probably shouldn't be missed.

On Saturday, QC electro-popsters Call me Poupée are at Zoobizarre, while local legends Crackpot play Casa with Norm Dionne.

Locals The Unireverse are at Playhouse on Sunday, and Talk Demonic and the Diamond Sea play Zoobizarre. At the Jazz Fest, you could check out Haligonian/Montrealer/Parisian rapper/Tom-Waits-comparison-magnet Buck 65 with DJ Killa Jewel at Club Soda or the shy and sultry Cat Power at the Spectrum.
