Montreal Weekend Playlist 07/19-07/23 [Podcast]

Posted by MP / July 19, 2006

Welcome to a streamlined, bite-sized version of the Weekend Picks post.

The podcast is right here, hosted by Jeremy Morris. It is great. Notice we didn't use a larger, less-bite-sized adjective, like bitchin' or tubular, to describe it.

Tonight (Wednesday), we lean towards the Peaches/Eagles of Death Metal/World Provider show at Metropolis, and not just because we like raunch, rawk and weird pop. Also because Peaches has been known to blow minds, and because how cool is it that World Provider is playing at Metropolis? Otherwise, consider the Nick Castro and Young Elders show at La Sala Rossa. Or don't. Whatever's cool with us.

Thursday sees Sunset Rubdown take over the weekly responsibility of someone from Wolf Parade playing a show with their side project. Ladyhawk open, and the show is at Sala. Also, the vowel-hating MSTRKRFT, they of the Death From Above 1979 background, play Les Saints (Ste. Catherine at St. Laurent, formerly Le Showcase).

Friday, Pony Up, Abigail Lapell and the Coloured Lights play the Bread Factory (617 St. Remi #304). Or else Fig Records launches a CD by the Saffron Sect, along with Emerald Cloud Cobra, Sailor White, DJ Transpleasantexpress and DJ Thomas Von Party at the Green Room.

On Saturday, we got DC's (the city, not the comics) Partyline, with Tennessee Twin and increasingly-more-excellent locals Kickers at Zoobizarre. Otherwise, People For Audio play Casa Del Popolo.

Sunday sees ex-Pharcyde rapper Fatlip play the Main Hall with Omni and local-esque (originally from Florida, we believe) rapper Bleubird. Call me Poupée play Café Campus.

And finalemente, Monday marks the beginning of Friendly Rich and the Lollipop People's weeklong stand at Théâtre Ste. Catherine. There are different openers each night. You should go see it at least once.
