Montreal Weekend Playlist 07/26-08/01 [Podcast]

Posted by MP / July 26, 2006

New podcast, hosted by Jeremy Morris, here.

Tonight (Wednesday), San Fran (you can call it San Fran and people from San Francisco don't mind, right? It's "Frisco" that they hate) people Vetiver, who have some kind of affiliation with Devendra Banhart and probably have beards, play at the Main Hall. Locals Orillia Opry and sorta-local Basia Bulat open up.

Thursday, there is not much going on. We're unsure about the Main Hall show featuring the Refined, the Silent Brigade and Bat Masterson, so attend at your own risk. Otherwise, maybe go get some ice cream?

On Friday, locals the Spins play Main Hall with Ghetto Pony opening. The Spins are heading into the studio (well, a studio) with Arcade Fire producer Howard Bilerman in a week or two. If you'd rather get your groove on, CoCo Café & Soulmeka present COCO PRIDE 2006 at Academy.
DJ Kani will be spinning enough afro-latin inspired, soulful and groovy tunes to get you set for whatever the weekend throws at you.

Saturday, the Duhks, who are on the same label as Dolly Parton, which should be all that we need to say, play Cabaret. OK, we'll also say that they're from Winnipeg. Or somewhere in the prairies.

On Sunday, the Hold Steady play at Sala Rossa, while ex-Montrealer, now-Brooklynite singer-songwriter fellow JF Robitaille is at Casa with Alan Semerdjian and Katie Sevigny.

On Monday, Muse play at Jacques Cartier Pier in the Old Port, and the Editors and Lake Trout are at La Tulipe on Tuesday. Yee-haw.

If you're eating ice cream on Thursday, at least come out to Cabaret Playhouse (5656 Parc) to see Many Mental Mistakes. They're about to play some Club Soda shows and before you have to stand in the back you can stand in the front ;p
