Montreal Weekend Playlist 08/02-08/06 [Podcast]

Posted by MP / August 2, 2006

Yo yo. Here's Episode (Version? Edition? Chapter? Phase?) 7 of the Weekend Picks Podcast, hosted by Jeremy Morris. Please enjoy.

Tonight (Wednesday), those interested in over-the-top melodramatic rock should go see Black Heart Procession at Sala Rossa with Devics and Castanets, while those interested in over-the-top lesbian-appropriated dance music should go see Lesbians on Ecstasy, who play the Outgames party at Viger Square.

Tomorrow (Thursday), you could consider seeing Frog Eyes with two amusing/interesting acts, the Blow and Yacht, at Main Hall. But I'd like to suggest that the sleeper show of the night, and maybe even the weekend, will be Ghost House with Joel and the Last of the Neighbours at Zoobizarre, and I'll elaborate accordingly: The two acts are the latest projects of Vancouver's Jesse Gander, formerly of Operation Makeout, who enjoy the honour of being one of my very favourite Canadian bands ever, and whose final album, Hang Loose, stands the test of time, and is hectic, melodic, and angular, an adjective that otherwise shouldn't be used to describe music.

Friday, the Minders and the Kingdom play Casa del Popolo. Also, the second Montreal iPod battle takes place at Club Lambi. Or get ice cream.

On Saturday, Danielson, which is a band and not some guy's last name (well, it is some guy's last name, just not in this case) and Oneida (also a band) play Sala.

Sunday, Indyish, which seems to be an online store with the word indie in its name and no greed in its heart, launches, uh, itself at Main Hall with sets by Shoot The Moon and Sara Johnston. They're also having a 24-hour music video contest, in which entrants get one of three songs by local bands and have, yes, 24 hours to make a video for it. Neat!

The Weekend Playlist:

Black Heart Procession: Not Just words

Ghost House: Your Big Day
