Montreal Weekend Playlist 08/10-08/13 [Podcast]

Posted by MP / August 10, 2006

Here's the 8th Weekend Playlist, substitute-hosted by John MacFarlane.

Tonight (Thursday), Toronto's Old Soul play with two Vancouver acts, Panurge and Run Chico Run at La Sala Rossa. There's also a benefit show for Le Roc (a local youth homeless shelter) across the street at Casa del Popolo, featuring Montreal's Let Lowns, Boo Hoo, and Toronto's RAA. Rumour has it it costs three bucks.

On Friday, Club Lambi is overrun by a bunch of bands, including locals (and MP favourites) Hexes & Ohs, New York's the Mutineers and Guelph's excellent d'Urbervilles. Elsewhere, Austin, TX's Peter and the Wolf, who did part of his recent tour by sailboat, and is vaguely folksy in a clattering, eccentric kind of way, is at the Green Room, and the totally insane Les Temps Liquides play L'Escogriffe.

Saturday finds Crowface and Crackpot at Casa del Popolo. They will not be playing laptops. Laptops will be played, however, (with other instruments) at the Panospria label night at Sala, with Nuthre, Camp, Kolumkilli, Blakkar Noir, Post-Hypnotic Suggestion, Subtle Movements and Scant Intone. You only need to walk to that part of town and decide whether or not you feel laptoppy. It is so a word.

The Vans Warped Tour rolls into town for the tenth time this Sunday, which means that most people who go this time around were probably 6 or 7 the first time it showed up. This also means that I am old.

The Weekend Playlist:

Run Chico Run - Famous for Being Famous
Old Soul - Shotgun Wedding
Panurge - Amazon Molly
Boo Hoo - Took
The D'Urbervilles - We're Blowing Up
Crackpot - Poor Laura
NOFX - Moron Bros
Blakkar Noir - Sweaty Box

Fe9licitations! It sounds like a macgial trip. We took the train to Montre9al for our first anniversary even stayed at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel where John Lennon wrote Give Peace a Chance. Mind you, we got an excellent discount and I'm pretty sure he paid full price!Montre9al is truly an enchanting city . . . and makes me proud to be Canadian even if I live on the cold and snowy Prairies now!

Hmm is anyone else encountering problems with the images on this blog loading?
I'm trying to determine if its a problem on my end or if it's the blog.

Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated.
