Montreal Weekend Playlist 12/14-12/18 [Podcast]

Posted by John / December 14, 2006

On this podcast, Jeremy Morris and I (John MacFarlane) are reunited, sort of like when Turner and Hooch are reunited in the film Turner And Hooch (which I haven't actually seen but which I assume must have a separation and then a classic sequence in which Turner, initially glad to be rid of Hooch, realizes that he misses him).

Tonight (Thursday), go see local heroes the Dears at the Spectrum with Harvee. Or else, go see another local hero, DJ Champion at Metropolis. Alternatively, consider seeing another gang of local heroes, Les Breastfeeders, who play at Cafe Campus with Creature. Man, with all of these heroes occupied with musical events, if the city's network of criminal elements decide to act, we're in trouble.

On Friday, Howe Gelb's Sno Angel Like You thingy is at Sala Rossa, along with the excellent Jim Bryson. Dashing local dude Patrick Watson is at the Ukrainian Federation, while the hipper hoppers among us might enjoy Kid Sister, Flosstradamus, A-Rock and Hatchmatik at Academy Club.

Of all of the Xmas specials on television, there is none more terrible than Frosty the Snowman, and yet, how can you say no to the SAVE FROSTY THE SNOWMAN BENEFIT on Saturday at the Ukrainian Federation, when it features Sam Roberts, Murray Lightburn, Jorane, Socalled, Subtitle, Secret Choir, Brendan Reed, members of Stars, Think About Life, Mouffette. Or perhaps you'd like to see the frontrunner of the Montreal funk marathon, the man voted most likely to succeed at the Montreal School of Funk and Midwifery, Tony Ezzy, at Zoobizarre, with a DJ set by DJ Scott C. Or, what about Ben Gunning (formerly of Local Rabbits) with Stonemason Band at Casa del Popolo? Or maybe Land of Talk, Kill the Lights and Boston's The Slip at Club Lambi? Or Priestess, The Besnard Lakes and Trigger Effect at Le National.

On Sunday, get into what they're calling "the spirit" (hint: it's not drugs) at an Open Mic thingy with Adam Waito and Tyler Rauman of Telefauna, Lil PIP, Giselle Numba One, Bold Saber and ThunderHeist! at Club Lambi ($7 - $1 off for each non-perishable donated to Mile End MIssion Food Baskets).
