Montreal Weekend Playlist 12/21-12/31 [Podcast]

While the holidays are about being with the ones you love, Jeremy Morris is left to host this podcast alone. Won't you join the lonely podcaster for this Jingle Bells-free holiday edition?

It's a quiet week for shows, but we've dug up what we could find to get you through the next two weeks (the podcast is on vacation until the new year).

OnThursday, get your head out of your egg nog and into Casa Del Popolo to join Dukes of the Archipelago, S.S. Cardiacs and The Just Barelys in launching Christmas cheer into the atmosphere (sorry, that's what the poster says...I don't make the news I just report it).

Or, check out former members of The Sainte Catherines and The Frenetics play in their new bands Yesterday's Ring and Malcolm Bauld at Petit Campus ($10).

Instead of caroling door-to-door, Lesbo Vrouven and Boo Hoo have opted for a more traditional show at Casa del Popolo on Friday night.

If you're hurtin' this holiday season, drown your sorrows with the Gwendolen Blues Project at La Sala Rossa or the Catfish Blues Trio (and guests) at the Griffintown Cafe.

Ottawa's Sick Fits roll into town to jam with local rockers The Jet Five at Escogriffe ($6).

On Saturday, singer songwriter Jon Brooks plays Casa del Popolo. He'll be playing with Lee Mellor or Derek Olive depending on whether you believe music message board listings or Casa's homepage.

Over at L'Escogriffe, Jingafly, Maybe Watson, and Postcriptum hip hop their way through the holidays for your enjoyment ($6).

Seeing as there's no pix/podcast next week, and we don't want you freaking out at home with your family and nothing to escape to, here are a few suggestions:

Local noise/ambient outfit Dead Bush, plays Casa Del Popolo on Wed. Dec. 27 with The Northern Arm.

If you drink sherry, port, or other fortified wine, you might enjoy the jazzy Damian Nisenson Trio f. Pierre Tanguay and JF Maillouxon Thu. Dec. 28 (again at Casa del Popolo)

In fact, you may as well just sleep at Casa or Sala, since they have events almost every night.
Fri Dec.29 its Clockout: Ninjatune Records Monthly night at Casa and Asphodel Records Night (feat. Naut Humon + Li Alin + Deadbeat+ Tim Hecker) at Sala. Friday also sees Johne-5 and Plante ta Femme at Club Lambi (8pm, $5).

On Sat. Dec. 30 it's Mit City (not to be confused with de Toque Ville) at Casa.

You can ring in the new year on Sunday at Casa's New Year's Eve Dance Party
or at Sala's "The Goods No-Frills New Years eve Party" featuring: Moonstarr, Scott C., Tashish, DJ Kobal, Andy Williams. Either way, your money's going to the same owner.
