Montreal Weekend Playlist 16/05-21/05 [Podcast]

Posted by John / May 16, 2007

20070516_frogeyes.jpgOnce again, "bands" have decided to "play" "shows" in Montreal over the next few days, and once again, Jeremy Morris and I help you "listen" to them "in" advance. Or after, I guess.

Tonight (Wednesday), you may have better odds of squeezing into Green Room to see Dead Bush, Gold Sword and Pink Saliva than forcing yourself into Friendship Cove to see the double album launch action (i.e., two album launches, not one double-album launch) of Shapes & Sizes and Miracle Fortress.

On Thursday, Electrelane, The Blow and Tender Forever is cancelled. Do not go.
Instead, go to this thing called Le Silent Noise Intempera with DangerDangerMammothHunter, Crawling under the Carwreck, and PoorFolk at Zoobizarre. Or else maybe Annabelle Chvostek and Jordi Rosen at Casa. Or, heck, Brother Hong Kong, Starvin Hungry, Devil Eyes and Les Gustavo Kuerten at Sala Rossa.

Friday marks the proud return of The Unionist Ministers and Les Freres Cheminaud to Divan Orange. Actually, I don't know if they've ever played there, but it sounds cooler like that. Psychobilly legend Reverend Horton Heat is at Foufounes with Murder by Death. And !!! (CHK CHK CHK), Holy Fuck and Telefauna will make Les Saints crazy, we suspect. Oh, also, Just Barelys, Elfin Saddle, Missing Children and BA Johnston are all at Zoobizarre, somehow.

This Saturday, you should totally go see The Winks, The Luyas, Sarah Mangle and the Neighbourhood and Secret Choir at Casa. A slightly different (but, we argue, very possibly worth seeing) experience would be Brand New, Anathallo and Colour Revolt at Spectrum. The same lineup plays Club Soda the next night.

Speaking of the next night (Sunday), Damien Rice is at L'Olympia, while Chinatown, les handclaps and The Corduroys play Zoobizarre

On Tuesday, Victoria's Frog Eyes play Sala with Himalayan Bear (Ryan Beatlie of Chet), and Keane and Rocco Deluca are at L'Olympia. You know, playing music.

Here's your Midnight Poutine Podcast:

Shapes and Sizes - Head Movin
Electrelane - To the East
Holy Fuck - Junglor (live at La Tulipe)
!!! - Heart of Hearts
