POP MTL Preview Podcast #1 - Sep. 19, 2012

Posted by Greg / September 17, 2012

20120917-Antibalas.jpgWow. The Fall air is just sweeping into Montreal and Pop is already upon us. That means it's time for a little annual Midnight Poutine tradition: a series of Pop preview podcasts, one for each day of the festival. Are we completely insane? We probably are, considering we normally manage to churn out one of these per week, but the mind boggling number of excellent artists playing at Pop necessitates all the extra coverage. Even after five podcasts we will have only covered a small selection of all the artists playing at this mega-festival.

As you make your way through our marathon, you'll hear tips for surviving Pop, some thoughts on festivals past, a whole lot of music, and some steadily-descending-into-insanity banter (hey, these take a long time to record). We also encourage heading over to Said the Gramophone, The Cult MTL, Forget the Box, and the Pop Montreal website for more show picks from members of the local scene.

Start getting ready. Here's your first Pop preview podcast:

Antibalas - Dirty Money
Ainsley McNeaney - Marianne
Christina Martin - Marina
Laetitia Sadier - Find Me the Pulse of the Universe
Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire - Huzzah!
VioleTT Pi - Biscuit Chinois
Nomadic Massive - Supafam
K'Naan - Hurt Me Tomorrow
Stars - The Theory of Relativity
Deerhoof - Breakup Songs
Wild Nothing - Through The Grass
Gang Gang Dance - Mindkilla
DJ Brace - Ancient Astronauts / Still A Soldier (DJ Brace Remix)

Note: a stretch of audio lasting about one minute is missing from this podcast because we had some problems that we couldn't fix in post-produciton, at which point all the co-hosts were also no longer available. If you want the full podcast, with Amie and Theo briefly sounding like auto-tuned robots, get it here.
